July 23, 2007The Break-bone fever
May 16, 2007I’ve just spent ten days suffering a nasty bout of dengue fever This is sometimes called the bonecrusher disease or break-bone fever, and I can understand why.
Dengue is so common these days that I seldom paid much attention when hearing that so-and-so is down with it. It’s hard to grasp just how painful it is unless you’ve gone through it yourself. I’ve never experienced anything so painful or debilitating, and I’m glad that the worst of it is over. Now it’s just a question of regaining my strength and waiting for my body to heal itself. This will take awhile, but the worst of it is over.

Happy Marriage Devyani
February 26, 2007A friend of mine got married last week. It’s a wedding I was meant to be at, and had been looking forward to tremendously. Unfortunately an ill-timed virus meant I couldn’t fly – and I missed an important moment that I’d wanted to be a part of.
Devyani, I’m sorry I couldn’t be there. I hope this new chapter in your life brings you all the joy and contentment you could wish for – and which you richly deserve.

Baramie Residence, Sattahip
February 21, 2007I stayed here last weekend, over the couple of days when I was supposed to be in Delhi but couldn’t fly. A well-run little property, with nice spacious bungalows not far from a quiet beach. The guests are mostly older Europeans, which means it’s quiet and people let you keep to yourself. The only drawback (and a major one) is that a block of condominiums is being built on the beach right in front of the bungalows. A pity; this is quite a find otherwise.
